How the Program Works
There are three options in which you may receive your classroom instruction. The most new and exciting way to receive your instruction will be through the LIVE interactive video and audio presentation.
NOTE: A WIRELESS INTERNET CONNECTION DOES NOT WORK WITH THE LIVE LECTURES OR THE ARCHIEVED LECTURES. THIS IS DUE TO A BANDWIDTH ISSUE. HOWEVER YOU CAN ACCESS OUR OTHER ONLINE MATERIAL WITH A WIRELESS CONNECTION.

Live Classroom: Some of the lectures throughout the semester will be a LIVE broadcast. The instructor has the ability to present case studies to you and to do classroom exercises with you as well. You can also ask questions of the instructor during the class time through a CHAT box. The instructor will respond to your question over the LIVE presentation so that you can see and hear the explanation to your question. So you don’t have to wait for an answer, a response to your question will be provided during the class time. For example you may have a question regarding a sonogram the instructor has reviewed. If you have a question about the case, you would submit your question during class and the instructor would return to that case study and answer your question. For this option you do have to have a high speed internet connection such as DSL or cable. A regular dial up internet connection will not work for this option. |
|
Archived (Recorded) Lectures: This is our online recorded session. Each week either an archived lecture or a LIVE lecture will be presented. Each of the lectures are archived on our server and are available to you on demand 24 hours each day for up to fourteen days following the LIVE broadcast. So if you do miss a LIVE class session, you haven’t missed the class. Of course you can email or call the instructor with any questions but you do miss out on being able to ask questions of the instructor during class. For this option you do have to have a high speed internet connection such as DSL or cable. A regular dial up internet connection may work for this option but will be of low video quality. |
|
Lecture by CD: This option is for those who do not have a high speed internet connection such as DSL or cable. With this option the lecture is burned onto a CD or DVD and mailed to the student. As with option two you can email or call the instructor with any questions but you do miss out on being able to ask questions of the instructor during class. |

As we all know there is a severe shortage of medical imaging professionals in the country today. Some areas are worse than others are. The availability of healthcare programs and the limited number of students that some programs accept are not keeping up with the growing demand.
At Southwest Missouri Allied Health Education we believe that the Internet offers the ultimate in availability to a structured healthcare education. A student can log on with other students and an instructor from anywhere and take a course. Our students may be entry level or they may be medical imaging professionals who are currently working in sonography or MRI but never had the opportunity to take a formal class.
Another advantage of this program is that you can do your clinical rotation right in your area. We must approve the site, but generally that is not a problem. If you don’t have a site then we go searching for you.
Some of the outstanding features of online classes are online testing and grading, interactive classroom instructing and its ease of use. The online testing and grading allows for automated grading and the tracking of the student’s answers to questions. The interactive chatroom and discussion board allows students to present case studies to the class and to participate in class exercises initiated by the instructor.
Online classes are user friendly. Of course it is easier and less frightening to those who have knowledge of accessing the internet but if you have none or are new to the internet don’t let that keep you from taking a course.
